What It Is
Anti-TPO antibodies target thyroid peroxidase, an enzyme essential for thyroid hormone synthesis.
Why It Matters
This is the most common antibody found in autoimmune thyroid disease and helps confirm diagnoses like Hashimoto's.
If Levels Are High
Elevated Anti-TPO is strongly associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis and may also be seen in Graves' disease.
If Levels Are Low
Low or absent levels are normal.
