C-peptide
What It Is
C-peptide is produced alongside insulin and reflects how much insulin your pancreas is making.
Why It Matters
C-peptide helps distinguish between type 1 and type 2 diabetes and assesses pancreatic beta-cell function.
If Levels Are High
High C-peptide suggests increased insulin production, seen in insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes.
If Levels Are Low
Low C-peptide indicates reduced insulin production, as seen in type 1 diabetes.
Preparation
Fasting for 8–12 hours is typically recommended.
How Often to Test
As clinically indicated for diabetes assessment.
