What It Is
Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in the heart, brain, and skeletal muscles.
Why It Matters
CK levels help assess muscle damage and can be useful after intense exercise or when investigating muscle disorders.
If Levels Are High
Elevated CK can indicate muscle injury, intense exercise, heart attack, or myopathy.
If Levels Are Low
Low CK is generally not a concern.
Preparation
Avoid strenuous exercise for 24–48 hours before the test.
