What It Is
Blood glucose measures the amount of sugar in your blood at the time of testing.
Why It Matters
Glucose monitoring is essential for detecting diabetes and pre-diabetes, and for managing blood sugar levels.
If Levels Are High
Elevated fasting glucose may indicate pre-diabetes or diabetes mellitus.
If Levels Are Low
Low glucose (hypoglycaemia) can cause shakiness, confusion, and may indicate overmedication or other conditions.
Preparation
Fasting for 8–12 hours is required for a fasting glucose test.
How Often to Test
Annually for screening; more frequently if diabetic or at risk.
