Mean Cell Haemoglobin (MCH)
What It Is
MCH measures the average amount of haemoglobin in each red blood cell.
Why It Matters
MCH helps classify types of anaemia — low MCH suggests iron deficiency, high MCH may indicate B12 or folate deficiency.
If Levels Are High
High MCH may indicate macrocytic anaemia, often caused by vitamin B12 or folate deficiency.
If Levels Are Low
Low MCH suggests microcytic anaemia, commonly due to iron deficiency.
