Oestradiol
What It Is
Oestradiol is the primary form of oestrogen, playing a key role in reproductive health, bone density, and cardiovascular protection.
Why It Matters
Oestradiol levels help assess fertility, menstrual irregularities, menopause, and hormone replacement therapy efficacy.
If Levels Are High
Elevated oestradiol may indicate ovarian hyperstimulation, tumours, or certain medications.
If Levels Are Low
Low oestradiol suggests menopause, premature ovarian insufficiency, or hypothalamic-pituitary dysfunction.
Preparation
Women: best measured on day 2–5 of the menstrual cycle unless otherwise advised.
How Often to Test
