Prolactin
What It Is
Prolactin is a hormone produced by the pituitary gland, primarily associated with breast milk production.
Why It Matters
Elevated prolactin can cause menstrual irregularities, infertility, and reduced libido in both sexes.
If Levels Are High
Elevated prolactin may indicate a pituitary adenoma (prolactinoma), hypothyroidism, or medication side effects.
If Levels Are Low
Low prolactin is uncommon and usually not clinically significant.
Preparation
Avoid breast stimulation and stress before the test. Morning sample preferred.

As clinically indicated.
