What It Is
PTH regulates calcium and phosphate levels in the blood by acting on the bones, kidneys, and gut.
Why It Matters
Abnormal PTH levels can indicate parathyroid disorders, vitamin D deficiency, or kidney disease.
If Levels Are High
Elevated PTH may indicate primary hyperparathyroidism or vitamin D deficiency.
If Levels Are Low
Low PTH may occur in hypoparathyroidism or excessive calcium supplementation.
