What It Is

Red blood cells in urine (haematuria) are not normally present and their detection warrants investigation.

Why It Matters

Blood in the urine can indicate kidney disease, urinary tract infections, stones, or other urological conditions.

If Levels Are High

Presence of red blood cells in urine requires further investigation to determine the source.

If Levels Are Low

Absence of red blood cells in urine is normal.

Preparation

Avoid strenuous exercise before the test. Women should avoid testing during menstruation.
